Changing the Notification that Plays When Call Recording is Turned On

The courtesy notification exists for a very important reason: in most states it is illegal to record a call without the consent of all parties involved. This is why Tresta includes a default message alerting callers that their conversation with the party they’re dialing may be recorded.

If you prefer, it is easy to make a custom courtesy notification. The following article walks you through this process and assumes you are a System Administrator.

Recording a New Notification

If you prefer to use your own recording, there are two ways to accomplish this: via the Audio Files page or the Edit Phone Numbers page. It’s important to note that any new greeting you create on the Edit Phone Numbers page is saved on the Audio Files page.

The directions below only explain how to record a new notification via the Edit Phone Numbers page.

  1. If you’re a system administrator, log into the Tresta web app. Once your account opens, click on the Settings tab at the top of the page.
  2. Click on on the Phone Numbers button. This button is located in the left sidebar within the System Settings. This opens the Phone Numbers page.
  3. Locate the phone number for which you want to change the call recording notification.
  4. Click on the Edit icon for the phone number. This icon is in the upper right corner your phone number box. Once clicked, the Edit Phone Number page appears.
  5. Click on the Notifications dropdown menu. This menu shows you all audio files available on your system. To record a new one, click the +New Notification option in the menu. This opens a new window where you can record the notification.
  6. Name your notification and record or upload the new files. You have the option to record a new notification or upload a file to use on your system. Either way, the new file will also be accessible via the Audio Files page.
  7. Agree to the Notification disclaimer. Click inside the box to the left of the notification disclaimer.
  8. Click the red Save button in the upper right corner of the Edit Phone Number page. Your new notification is now live on your account and can be accessed via the Notifications dropdown menu on any Edit Phone Number page or the Audio Files page.

Changing the Call Recording Notification

If you’re a system administrator, you can easily change the call recording notification. Once you’re logged into the web app and are on the Phone Numbers page, do the following:

  1. Locate the phone number for which you want to change the call recording notification and click on the Edit icon for the phone number. This icon is in the upper right corner your phone number box. Once clicked, the Edit Phone Number page appears.
  2. Click on the Notifications dropdown menu. This menu shows you all audio files available on your system.
  3. Select a notification from the menu. Simply click on any item in the menu to select it.
  4. Click the red Save button in the upper right corner of the Edit Phone Number page. The updated notification is now live on your account.

Do I have to use a call recording notification?

As we mentioned above and in our best practices, it is illegal to record a call without the consent of all parties involved. If you decide that you prefer to deliver the disclaimer yourself over the phone, you can waive the use of a pre-recorded message.
